About
wtf los angeles
is a bootstrap operation obsessed with wine and run by Leah Hennessy.
wtf los angeles provides cheap tastings of wines that we truly believe in. The majority of wines we feature come from independent wineries and many are local to CA. We have taste tons of wines and select our favorites to be featured at our tastings. Once we’ve put together a group of wines for a tasting, we’ll pick a spot somewhere in LA, announce it, go there, and do it up. That’s pretty much it.
What’s the point? Glad you asked…
There are a couple reasons why we do this. One is to empower wine drinkers. So many people that drink wine are self-concious talking about it – we think this is due to the fear that either a) they’ll like sound like complete douchebags or b) that they “don’t know enough.” While we really can’t do anything about the former, the latter is just silly. Nobody feels like they have to know music theory to talk about a song, or have a degree in film history to talk about a movie – why do people feel like they have to be “experts” in order to talk about wine. The goal of every tasting is to empower our attendees. We educate each person as much or as little as they want over every glass of wine poured. We are always up for questions and never judge (unless of course, you are acting like a douche, in which case we judge quietly but never say anything).
The main reason, though, is because we love wine.
